GW takes common tools that multiple manufacturers make, finds the cheapest one, slaps their logo on it and sells it for twice the price.

http://www.micromark.com/ sells every tool you could possibly at normal prices. The design team talked about 'associative rules' at the recent studio open day. The idea being that removing models from the front of a squad as they are mown down by incoming fire 'fits' with our understanding of what would really happen were the situation real.

Re: Warhammer 40,000: Sixth Edition

Actually I find this new wound allocation system a lot less complex, and it also makes more sense. people that run in the front rows are most of the time the people that die first if the unit is under fire

Re: Games Workshop Announce Half Price Sale

I'm a little late to the game here, but I took this as a tongue-in-cheek piece. My opinion on actually doing it seem to be shared by Thor, but the thought is humorous, none-the-less.

Re: Games Workshop Announce Half Price Sale

I don't see why you shouldn't do this. 33% is an outrageous amount to increase the price by, especially for no apparent reason. If they didn't increase their prices so much, or had uniform price increases, this wouldn't be a problem for them. GW should pay for their incompetence! Alternatively, returning goods purchased on sale or from a different store at a lower price with the intention ofprofiting from the difference."

Interesting if you buy from GW and take back to GW, I don't think it meets this definition. You are not "falsified receipts", you are using GW's standard policy or allowing returns without receipt to be exchanged for other goods all at the current price. What if you exchanged something that had gone up by 10% for something that had also gone up by 10%, would you say that I could only only get credit at the old price but have to pay the new price for the new item I want ?

The original good(s) purchased are not on sale, and once you buy from GW they are not from a "different store at a lower price with the intention of profiting from the difference".

I'm sure GW are aware of this loophole caused by the fact they don't have uniform price rises, however the percentage of people willing to carry it out is so small that they would rather give good customer service to the customers who generally want to exchange something they bought for something else.

I would guess that once you're buying and returning the items to GW you're fine. However I bet that the policy of allowing returns without a receipt is optional on GW's part, so they may say no if they remember you buying 4 Imperial Strongpoints only days earlier :)

Rathstar

PS. It would interesting to hear a legal expert opinion on the practice suggested in the blog, and whether GW would be in their rights to refuse to give an exchange without receipt on an individual basis.

Re: Games Workshop Announce Half Price Sale

Games Workshop's annual price review and their pricing strategy generally is a significant discussion point for people who buy Games Workshop products. It gets talked about a lot on hobby blogs and forums across the world so we thought we'd talk about it here.

We looked for a different perspective, something outside of 'who cares' or 'this is the last straw for me'.

If the process is illegal we're curious about why and the impact of this sort of crime. There are associated opportunities to look at retail crime more generally. For example, Games Workshop ask third party stockists to put stock on shelves and offer a greater trade discount to companies who do so to reflect the fact that some of it will get stolen. Retail crime is clearly a problem, and one that's worth talking about.

It's even more interesting if it turns out it isn't illegal. Why do we feel it's shady or morally wrong? Where do those feelings come from? Why do we think it is illegal if it isn't? What governs our sense of what's illegal and what isn't?

Re: Games Workshop Announce Half Price Sale

It could be seen as the intent to get the best value for your money.

Re: Games Workshop Announce Half Price Sale

Leveraging a price change is the same as spitting in a Taco?

Re: Games Workshop Announce Half Price Sale

Anyone who has worked in food service knows what goes on too. Does that make it OK for me to spit in your Tacos?
